How to repost your TikToks to Reels and Shorts

Your best TikToks can grow two more audiences. Here is how to repost them cleanly so every platform gives them a fair chance.

Quick answer: Download your own TikTok without the watermark, replace TikTok library music with a licensed sound in the new app, keep text away from the edges, and upload natively in Instagram or YouTube with a fresh caption and cover.

Posting the same vertical video on TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts is one of the easiest ways to grow. But a lazy repost — watermark, wrong music, captions cut off — usually flops. A few minutes of care fixes that. This guide is for your own videos.

Step 1: Get the clean file

Copy the link of your TikTok and paste it into the TikTok downloader without watermark. Choose 1080p. Instagram has said it shows fewer people Reels that carry other apps' watermarks, so a clean file matters.

Step 2: Deal with the music

Sounds from TikTok's library are licensed for TikTok. On other platforms they can get muted or blocked. The safe approach:

  • If your video uses your own voice or original sound, keep it.
  • If it uses a TikTok song, download the version without music if you have it, or lower the original audio to zero in the new app and add the same song from Instagram's or YouTube's own library.

Step 3: Fix the safe zones

Each app puts buttons and captions in different places. Keep important text in the centre of the frame, away from the bottom 20% and the right edge. If your TikTok text sits low, add it again in the new app instead of relying on the burned-in version.

Step 4: Upload natively

  • Instagram Reels: upload in the app, pick a cover frame, add 3–5 relevant hashtags and a hook in the first line of the caption.
  • YouTube Shorts: keep it under 3 minutes, add a clear title with your main keyword, and use the Shorts camera to add a sound if needed.
  • Facebook Reels: share from Instagram or upload directly; the same clean file works.

Step 5: Captions

Use the subtitle downloader to get your captions as an SRT file, then upload it on YouTube. Real caption tracks help search and accessibility.

Timing

Post on each platform a day apart rather than all at once. That way you can see which hook works where and adjust the caption for the next one.

What not to repost

Do not repost other creators' videos as your own, even "for fans". It breaks every platform's rules and leads to strikes. Duets, stitches and reaction videos with credit are the right way to build on someone else's work.

Frequently asked questions

Will Instagram punish TikTok watermarks?

Instagram has said it deprioritises Reels with visible watermarks from other apps. Use a clean file.

Can I repost someone else's TikTok with credit?

Credit alone is not permission. Ask the creator first.

Should I post on all three platforms the same day?

A day apart works better, so you can learn which hook works where.

Does reposting hurt my TikTok account?

No. Posting your own content elsewhere does not affect TikTok reach.
