How to save TikTok drafts to your gallery

Drafts are stored only inside the TikTok app. Delete the app or switch phones and they are gone. Here is how to keep them.

Quick answer: Open the draft, set "Who can watch" to Only me, switch on Save to device under More options, and post it. TikTok saves a copy to your gallery and only you can see the post. Drafts have no link, so a downloader cannot reach them directly.

TikTok drafts are not uploaded anywhere. They sit in the app's private storage on your phone, which means they do not appear in your gallery, are not backed up to iCloud or Google, and disappear if you uninstall TikTok, log out, or move to a new phone. A downloader cannot reach them either, because they have no link. So the job is to get them out of the app first.

Method 1: Post as private with "Save to device"

  1. Go to your profile and open Drafts.
  2. Open the draft and tap Next.
  3. Under Who can watch this video, choose Only me.
  4. Open More options and switch on Save to device (on some versions: "Save posts with watermark" off).
  5. Tap Post. TikTok saves a copy to your gallery, and only you can see the post.

This is the method TikTok intends, and it keeps full quality.

Method 2: Save from the draft editor

In recent versions, open the draft, tap the download arrow or Save option in the editor, if your region shows it. It exports straight to your gallery without posting.

Method 3: Private post, then SLMtik

If "Save to device" is missing, post the draft as Only me, then temporarily switch that single video to Everyone, copy its link, paste it into SLMtik to get the clean MP4, and set it back to Only me. Do this only for your own videos.

Avoid screen recording

Recording your screen while the draft plays works in a pinch, but it captures the TikTok buttons, lowers quality and often records notification sounds. Use it only as a last resort.

Before you change phones

  • Count your drafts and save every one you want to keep.
  • Check your gallery to confirm each file plays with sound.
  • Back up the gallery to iCloud Photos or Google Photos.
  • Only then log out or delete TikTok.

Why drafts disappear

Clearing TikTok's cache, offloading the app on iPhone, or running a "phone cleaner" can wipe drafts too. If you have a big project, save each draft the day you make it rather than waiting.

Drafts with sounds from TikTok's library may export without music in some regions for licensing reasons. Add the sound again in your editor if that happens.
